What paint protection film is
Paint protection film is what it sounds like: a physical film laid over the paint, on the panels that take the rock chips. On a Fraser Valley vehicle that is mostly the front end. The hood, the front bumper, the fenders and the backs of the mirrors take stone chips at highway speed, and on a vehicle that sees the mountain highways in winter, the sand does the same job lower down, on the doors and the rockers.
Which panels get film is your call. It can be the hood on its own, a single fender, or more. Coverage is confirmed per vehicle before booking, so you know exactly what is getting film and what is not.
Film or ceramic coating: not the same job
The two get mentioned together, and both are shop work, but they do different things. Film goes over the panels that take the chips — it is a physical layer between the paint and the road. A ceramic or graphene coating goes over the paint itself: washing gets much easier, gloss lasts far longer, and salt, sap, bug fallout and hard water have a harder time etching in.
Which one makes sense depends on the vehicle and how it is used. It is a two-minute conversation on the phone.
Why film goes on in the shop
Film is applied in the bay on Aitken Rd, wherever you live, for the same reason paint correction and ceramic coating are: it needs proper lighting to inspect the paint under and controlled conditions to be done properly. A driveway cannot give you those, whoever is standing in it.

How long it takes depends on the vehicle and how much of it is getting film, so ask for a time when you book rather than reading one off a page.

Can I have just the hood, or one fender, done?
Yes. Which panels get film is your call. A single panel still carries the $999 minimum, so call with the vehicle and the panels you have in mind and you will get a number for exactly that.
Is film better than a ceramic coating?
Neither is better for every vehicle, because they do different jobs. Film is a physical layer over the panels that take the rock chips.
